The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) held an exchanging activity from 14 to 17 July for students from the School of Marxism at South China University of Technology. The theme of the activity was “Inheriting the Red Gene, Building Dreams for the Bay Area Future,” with a total of 19 students from the Marxism Theory Class participating. The activity aimed to enhance students’ understanding and recognition of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy through red education practices.
The four-day activity was rich and compact in content. At the opening ceremony, Zhang Dongli, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at South China University of Technology, expressed sincere gratitude to the University of Macau for its warm reception and meticulous arrangements. He also looked forward to further strengthening cooperation between the two institutions in areas such as red education, academic exchanges, talent cultivation, and collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, jointly promoting innovative development in Marxism theory education. Following the ceremony, the participants visited the University Gallery, Lui Che Woo College, and the Centre for Chinese History and Culture, and engaged in discussions and exchanges with UM students to learn about campus life and studies in Macao. The thematic lectures included “US-China Relations in the Trade War” and “One Country, Two Systems and Macao’s Practice” delivered by UM Professors, to deepen participants’ theoretical understanding. The site visits led participants to the Lin Zexu Memorial Museum of Macao, Macao Museum, the Mount Fortress, Macao Science Center, Macao University of Science and Technology, the Patriotic Education Base for Youth, the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, the UM Research Institute in Zhuhai, and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone Exhibition Hall. Through this activity, participants gained an in-depth experience of the vivid practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macao, sensed the integration of red genes with the spirit of the times, enhanced their sense of identification with socialism with Chinese characteristics and political awareness, and strengthened their practical abilities and team collaboration spirit.
South China University of Technology is located in Guangzhou and is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. The university has a long history of education, tracing its origins back to the Guangdong Provincial First Class A Industrial School established in 1918 (commonly known as the “Red Class A Industrial School”); it was formally established in 1952 during the nationwide adjustment of higher education institutions and was one of the “Four Major Engineering Institutes” in New China; it became a national key university in 1960; it joined the “Project 211” in 1995; entered the “Project 985” in 2001; and was included in the “Double First-Class” construction Category A universities in 2017. The School of Marxism at South China University of Technology was independently established in April 2009 and is a secondary unit directly under the university, specializing in the teaching of ideological and political theory courses and research in Marxism theory.
CCE continues to develop more high-quality training programs to promote exchanges and cooperation between outstanding mainland universities and UM.
