The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of the University of Macau (UM) held the offline sessions of the “Training Course on STEM Literacy Enhancement” for 60 students from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) from December 15 to 18, 2025.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Matthew Ting-chi Liu, Director of CCE, introduced the international development of UM. Prof. Lu Mei from the Department of Engineering Management, School of Management at XAUAT, encouraged students to cherish this cross-border learning opportunity and broaden their academic horizons. Guests attending the ceremony also included Mr. Li Li, Chief of Exit-Entry Administration Section at the International Office; Prof. Wu Manli, Director of Shaanxi Provincial Higher Education Key Laboratory for Soil Pollution Remediation and Solid Waste Resource Utilization; and Mr. Wu Hao, Counselor.
The four-day training program was rich and intensive, keeping pace with the frontiers of technological development. The thematic lectures covered topics such as “Big Data and Artificial Intelligence: Revolutionary Development”, “AI for Smart Building, Smart Grid and Smart City”, “STEM Education – Interdisciplinary Integration Abilities”, and “Building Smart Cities with Applied Environmental Engineering and the Internet of Things”. The students gained a deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary integration, and experienced high-quality teaching from UM’s international faculty. During the campus tour, students visited the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (University of Macau) to gain in-depth knowledge of UM’s top-tier research facilities and achievements in the fields of smart cities and IoT.
CCE is committed to promoting high-quality continuing education. This training activity further strengthened cooperation in academic exchange and talent cultivation between universities in Macao and Chinese mainland, jointly promoting the development of STEM education and smart city technologies.
