From January 14 to 18, The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), in collaboration with HKU SPACE, organized a training course on Leadership and Cross-Cultural Communication for 25 students from Yunnan University.

The five-day program consist of several lectures and visits, with all sessions conducted in English. The lectures covered a wide range of topics, including “Critical Thinking and Decision-Making for Leaders”, “Public Speaking Skills for Leaders”, “How Innovation Drives Economic Growth: Big Data and Technological Innovation”, and “Cross-Cultural Communication and Global Perspectives”. During the on-campus visits, students went to Mock Casino and Currency Museum in FBA, gaining insights into Macau’s monetary history and its leading industry. At the closing ceremony, a student representative expressed that they had a good chance to learn more about the culture of Hong Kong and Macau. The program broadened their horizons and provided a wealth of valuable experiences.

Yunnan University, one of the earliest comprehensive universities established in China’s western frontier, has a rich history of academic excellence. In 1978, it was designated as one of the country’s 88 key universities by the State Council. It was among the first universities included in the national “211 Project” in 1996 and was selected as a priority institution under the Western Development Program in 2001. In 2017, Yunnan University was recognized as one of the first 42 universities to participate in the “Double First-Class Initiative,” and in 2022, it continued its inclusion in the second phase of the national “Double First-Class” initiative.

This training program represents another successful collaboration between UM CCE and HKU SPACE. Through cross-city academic exchanges, the program continues to promote the development of a new model of continuing education cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
