The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of the University of Macau (UM) held a training course on “Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Applications” for 80 students from Jiangsu Ocean University (JOU) from January 5 to 8, 2026. The students are from the majors of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and Robotics Engineering at the Makarov College of Ocean Engineering of JOU.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Matthew Liu, Director of CCE, introduced the international development of UM. Mr. Zhang Fengkang, Secretary of the Direct Party Branch of the Makarov College of Ocean Engineering at JOU, encouraged students to cherish this cross-border learning opportunity and broaden their academic horizons. Guests attending the ceremony also included Mr. Xie Changjiang, Director of the Party and Administration Office of the Makarov College of Ocean Engineering; Ms. Xu Jiajie, Director of the Student Affairs Office of the College; and Ms. Wu Yang, Chief of the General Section of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office.
The training program was rich and intensive, conducted entirely in English. The thematic lectures covered topics such as “AI Fundamentals: Computer Science Deep Learning and its Applications”, “AI for Smart Building, Smart Grid and Smart City”, “AI and Smart Manufacturing & Automation Control”, and “AI Fundamentals: Applications of AI and Machine Learning”, delivered by UM’s senior professors and instructors. The students gained a deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary integration, and experienced high-quality teaching from UM’s international faculty. During the campus tour, students visited the SKL-IOTSC to gain in-depth knowledge of UM’s top-tier research facilities and achievements in the fields of smart cities and IoT.
CCE is committed to promoting high-quality continuing education. This training activity further strengthened cooperation in academic exchange and talent cultivation between universities in Macao and Chinese mainland, jointly promoting the integrated development of AI and engineering technology.
