The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) organized a training program for students from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) from February 2 to 6, 2026. The training topic was “Academic Paper Writing and Academic Competency Enhancement” with 15 postgraduate students from the School of English Language and Culture at GDUFS participating.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Matthew LIU, Director of CCE, expressed his hope that the students would learn more about UM and Macao during these days. The five-day training, conducted entirely in English and delivered by senior professors from UM, included multiple thematic lectures. The topics covered “Applied Linguistics Development and Globalization”, “Research Methods, Design and Writing in Translation Studies”, “Drama Studies” and “World Englishes and Popular Culture.” The students experienced high-quality teaching from UM’s international faculty and were left with a profound impression of the university’s beautiful campus.
Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is a key institution under Guangdong Province’s high-level university development program. The university is characterized by its distinct internationalization features and serves as an important base in South China for cultivating international talents, advancing research in foreign languages and literature, global economic governance, foreign-related rule of law, and promoting international dissemination of Chinese culture. Its School of English Language and Culture originated from the English Department established in 1965 at the former Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages, making it one of GDUFS’s oldest departments with the deepest academic foundation.
GDUFS sent students to the University of Macau for short-term training programs in both 2021 and 2023. Through continuously conducting such programs, UM CCE has fostered exchange and cooperation with outstanding higher education institutions in Chinese mainland.
