Founded in 1912, Nantong University (NTU) traces its origins to the Private Nantong Medical School and Nantong Textile School, established by the prominent modern industrialist and educator Zhang Jian. In 2004, Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology, and Nantong Teachers College merged to form the new Nantong University. In 2023, the university signed a strategic agreement with the Nantong Municipal Government to integrate the development of the “Famous City and Famous University,” creating a new model of interactive growth where “the city nurtures the university, and the university enhances the city.” In the 2024 China University Rankings, NTU’s overall strength was ranked 100th, with its Nature Index ranking placing it 70th among mainland Chinese universities, and its ESI composite ranking at 113th nationally.

Since 2021, Nantong University has been consistently sending students to UM for training programs each year. Both institutions look forward to further strengthening their collaboration to advance educational and talent exchange efforts between the two regions.
