The short course “Introduction to Big Data” was completed recently and this is the third batch of the same course organized by the Continuing Education Centre of the University of Macau. The course is designed for students interested in intelligent big data and data science. This batch has experienced class suspension under influence of novel coronavirus pandemic. Some students said that despite the constant twists and turns in the middle, they still insisted on completing in the end, and they felt particularly profound. In addition, some students said that learning big data through weekend courses through the Centre is very suitable for the needs of working adults.

Due to its popularity, this course has been launched three times since April 2019. The curriculum theory and practice are equally important. The course provides students basic knowledge of big data through a series of interdisciplinary and cross-domain application examples, lays a solid foundation for further study, and brings improvement to ordinary work. The Centre aims to promote scientific knowledge and applications thus more prospective science talents will be trained, contributing towards education in Macau and the Greater Bay Area.

This course has a strong faculty and diverse content. The main contents include understanding database management tools, learning data processing and analysis skills, machine learning tools, basic principles of data mining, and big data in finance, law, marketing, medical, language, traffic monitoring and other practices.
